On Friday November 2, 2012 D’Youville College held its annual Caring Casino Night. Students on D’Youville’s Student Association as well as officers from every club helped run the event. The event was open to all and was a HUGE success!

Gamblers could donate non-perishable food items or make a monetary donation in exchange for play money which could be used to play the various casino games. Black Jack, Roulette, Poker, and the Wheel of fortune were just a few of the games at Casino Night.

Play money won through gambling could then be traded in for raffle tickets that could be entered in various raffles to win awesome prizes. Some of the prizes included, North Face Fleeces, D’Youville apparel, a Nook, a Fossil watch, and a large flat screen TV. Many students tried their luck and at times it got pretty intense.

I worked the Under Over game and it was funny to see how competitive everyone was getting. The most exciting part was when people were down to their last play dollar and then won triple their money! I could never work in a casino I always feel bad when people lose. I like to see them win! Volunteers from the Buffalo Bandettes also attended the event and helped sell 50/50 raffle tickets.

Twenty-eight boxes of food were collected at the event which will be used to help feed 50 local families this Thanksgiving and help stock the Holy Angels food pantry. All proceeds raised at the event were donated to a local organization, Cradle Beach Camp. Cradle Beach Camp is mainly a summer camp program that attends to the needs of children with disabilities as well as children who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. The summer camp program is the main focus but the organization remains active throughout the year by hosting weekend respites, Project Soar, and by sharing their facility with schools and other community organizations. More information about Cradle Beach can be found by visiting their website.

There were also plenty of snacks and beverages provided for everyone to enjoy. I had a brownie and it was super good. One of the best brownies I’ve had in a while!

At the end of the night it was time to pull all the raffles. The crowd started going crazy with enthusiasm for the prizes. One guy flipped a chair as he celebrated his win. Another student screamed extremely loud and pumped his fist into the air when he won the Nook. The energy in the room was off the charts! I recommend attending this event to anyone who’s looking to have a great time at D’Youville, maybe I will see you there next year!
